Guardian Information

Our Guardian Families aren’t just participants in our breeding program- they become part of the Sophie’s Goldendoodles family. We value long-term relationships and are committed to supporting our Guardian Families every step of the way.

Our Guardian Program allows carefully selected families to welcome one of our exception Doodles into their home while partnering with us to continue producing healthy, loving puppies. Guardian families enjoy all the companionship of owning one of our doodles while helping us preserve the quality and health of future generations. In order for us to give our doodles the best possible home, it is important for us to limit the number of dogs in our home.  Our guardian program offers the families in the Treasure Valley a “pick of the litter puppy” for a greatly reduced price.  The Guardian Home puppy or dog is part of the Guardian Home’s Family forever while the breeding rights are retained by Sophie’s Goldendoodles.  While your doodle lives with your family as a beloved pet, Sophie’s Goldendoodles retains legal ownership during the breeding portion of the Guardian Program. Once the Guardian Dog has completed his/her breeding career, he/she will be spayed/neutered and full ownership is transferred to your family.

Is there a cost involved to be a guardian home?

Yes, The cost is $500.  When the Guardian puppy has completed his/her breeding career for us and the doodle is spayed/neutered, we will transfer ownership to the Guardian family.

Our Guardian Families are responsible for the general vet care and wellness of the Guardian puppy placed with them.  This includes annual vaccines, feeding high-quality dog food, professional grooming, training, regular exercise, socialization, and most importantly all the love, care, and attention possible.

Any breeding related medical costs for the Guardian puppy are of the expense of Sophie’s Goldendoodles.  Our Guardian Homes are only responsible for the maintenance and medical care just as they would if they had their own dog.

What are the benefits and obligations of being a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Family gets what we consider to the very best Sophie’s Goldendoodles has to offer.  We choose the puppies we would like to breed based on the best qualities, that family have known, loved, and come to expect in one of our puppies.

How long will my puppy be away from me?

We have worked with Guardian Families for more than 15 years.  Every family is different, so we work with each Guardian Family to develop a plan that is best for both the doodle and the household.

  • One of our guardian families wants their Girl to be with them completely after the puppies are born.  We bring over all the supplies needed and show them what to do after the puppies are stable.
  • Another family works during the week, but would like their doodle with them on the weekend.  We set up a whelping area for them at each home and the mom and puppies go with them on the weekend.
  • Another family doesn’t want to deal with puppies- that’s fine too.  They can come visit their girl and she will go home when she no longer interacts with the puppies.
  • Another family wants the puppies with them, but they are going away on vacation.  We bring the mom and puppies to us when they are away.

Males are easy.  We ask the Guardian Family to meet us to breed for an hour and we return him on the same day unless circumstances prevent us from doing so.

Can I have my own litter after I have learned about breeding from Sophie’s Goldendoodles?

We have a ten year “no breed” clause in our contract for Guardians who want to learn from us to breed their own litters.
